Harvest and Half Term

I can’t believe it is half term already! Well done everyone for the harvest  service yesterday. All your hard work on those costumes really paid off and the performers had KS1 rofl (as I hear it’s called).

This is a good opportunity as well to say that the class blog is up and running and will be updated at least every week, if not more, so watch this space!

Spelling rule 19/09/16

In year 5 we are currently looking at suffixes. Our spelling rule of the week is adding the suffix ‘ious.’

Tip- in words with the suffix ‘ious’ sometimes the ‘i’ is  silent and can sound like ‘us.’

Below is a list of spellings that we have been looking at:

  • precious
  • malicious
  • ambitious
  • cautious
  • fictitious
  • obvious
  • nutritious
  • previous
  • serious
  • various
  • anxious
  • delicious
  • envious
  • suspicious
  • vicious

Strategies to help learn your spellings

  • design your own flash cards with the spellings written on them .
  • write, look, cover, say strategy .
  • Memory game with a friend – Create a double set of word cards and  spread out the cards face down and then take turns flipping two cards at a time to find a pair.
  • create a word search with the spellings.
