Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Backstage

Recently, Year 6 and Year 5 have been working hard to learn lines and staging this years production ready to perform infront of the parents on the 29th and 30th June. We’ve all been working hard and it was a great success.

Here are some photos of Joseph backstage!

Boris Johnson letter

Recently, Year 6 have been studying Climate Change and have noticed how major the cause is. We all wrote letters to Boris Johnson which we carefully edited and sent to him. We recently received a reply and we were all really excited.

Book Fest

Year 5 & 6 went to Book Fest in Wimbledon Common to see the author Phil Earle.

He told us that he had written 22 books so far and has been writing for years. We will all be receiving a book of his, which has recently been published and isn’t yet for sale. So, we get it as soon as it is printed, which is very lucky.

Jubilee

On the 23rd May 2022, we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

So what is a Platinum Jubilee? A Platinum Jubilee – which the Queen has recently celebrated – is to mark 70 years reigning on the throne and is a very special event, specifically for the queen because she is the first monarch that has ever reigned this long in the history of the Earth.

At St. Matthews, we celebrated by practicing dances, songs and making Jubilee collages. We showed our dances and songs at a picnic/ party on the field at the end of the week. Also, each class had a decade of the queen’s reign which we learnt about and performed in a parade in the school.

What did you do for the Jubilee?

Year 6 France Trip

Yes, Year 6 have gone to France!!! Leaving at 4:30 in the morning on Monday, Year 6 departed for France. We couldn’t contain our excitement travelling to the ferry port for a 5 and a half hour journey. On the ferry ride, everyone started exploring around the entertainment-packed ship. Some of us stayed in the lounge to play cards. Once we were there, we took a two and a half hour drive to la Grand Ferme – where we were staying. We participated in a range of activities including: archery, canoeing, shopping in the market, aeroball and even orienteering around Avranches following French instructions. Reluctantly, we made the long journey back, knowing that we’d made made memories for a lifetime.

Debating competition finals

On Friday 22nd, we held an intense debating competition finals. From logical questions to deep research, we were all on the edge of our chair when the results were out. There was Game 1 to decide 3rd place and 4th place and a just as intense battle for 1st and second place.

But there can only be one winner…

In 1st place: Attenborough!!!

Netball

A group of Year 6 went to the Netball Tournament which was Raynes Park Cluster – they tried their hardest in every match. There were challenging moments and at one point they scored a whopping 5-0 win. They played local schools in the heats coming second in their heat, sending them through to the borough finals.

A big well done to them all from us!

Class Worships: Year 6

In St. Matthews, classes take turns to run class worships and since it’s been such a long time since we had a Class Worship, we thought that we should start off with Year 6. It was all about loving your yourself and that love has no age, race, gender, religion or background, and that it should be an action.
