Get to know the teacher: Mrs Chandler, Nursery

This term, the bloggers will be interviewing the teachers of St. Matthew’s, so that the parents and children can get to know them. We will be interviewing the class teacher from Nursery to Year 6 and posting towards the end of the school week. For example, one Thursday you will get Year 3’s class teacher interview out, then about a week later, you would get Year 4’s. But we’re starting off with nursery this week.

Year 6 trip to National Gallery

On Thursday 25th November, Year 6 set off into London on a trip to the National Gallery. In the morning, we had a talk with a guide about some paintings and then we had lunch. Then, in the afternoon, the challenge began. In our groups, we had an iPad each and a checklist. Our mission was to search the gallery for the category/ title given on the list. For example, we would be given the words ‘The Ascension’, and have to find a painting that reflects that topic.

The points are still to be added up and there is a whopping prize for the winning group.

Recently in Year 6, we have been working on some scrapbooks and other activities reflecting the National Gallery. For good pieces of work, points will be added to each group. Below, are some of the wonderful pictures taken of the art at the gallery.

4-square competition!

On Friday the 19th November, 2 representatives from each house in each class played it off for 4-square glory! The first place in each game received 50 merits (house-points) and second place won 25 merits! The final results were:

  1. Rashford – 125 merits!
  2. Attenborough – 100 merits!
  3. Pankhurst – 50 merits!
  4. Radacanu – 25 merits!

Greek Storytelling and Banquet

On Thursday the 11th of November, we had a Greek storytelling competition. At the finals, we experienced a Greek banquet – within this, we held a storytelling competition. The finalists were : Finlay, Sophia, Natalie B and Katrina. We voted with voting stones – the competitors turned their backs and the audience would place a stone next to the competitor that they thought was the best.  They competed against each other but there was a tie between Finlay and Natalie B! We voted again and Finlay won, 16 stones to 13 stones. Congrats to him.
