Arachne you shall be punished

Dear Arachne.

I am the mighty Zeus, lord of the skies; god of gods. I am writing this to advise you to stop your inordinately hubristic behaviour. I know it sounds thrilling to possible be more pre eminent at weaving than one of us gods but carry on in this puerile manner and the punishment will be severe.

Athena is an exquisite weaver so to even become close to her ability and skill is a tremendous achievement; in doing this you have far transcended what any mortal has done before. However, you should not announce it with trumpets. This will cause other people to disfavour you and you will no longer draw others attention towards your tapestry. No matter how divine your work is.

Various other mortals have suffered plenty from their hubris. Carry on in this way and you will find that you are to be the next victim of excessive pride. You have been afflicted with vanity and way to if you do not steer yourself away from this wretched path then you will be the following person to suffer this harrowing fate.

You are a superior weaver and you future could and should be bright. However, we gods are in charge of your fate and we abhor it deeply when others believe they are to a greater degree than us. You should admire us and thank us for what we do.

I am warning you, you must stop this furore or your days will be numbered. This is your last chance before we act.

Yours sincerely,

Zeus
