Mayan creation
Long before time had fastened its grip on the Earth and consolidated its rule as permenant leader there was nothing but a baron landscape of calm sea, and an uneventful realm of turqoise, which was the swirling sky.
A majestic serpent rose from the murky waters, the supreme ruler of the sea, his feathers shimmering in the sunlight. He ascended to meet with his counterpart: the raw thunderbolt, Huracan he was the undisputed king of his region, the heart of the sky he swooped down to discuss with the sea deity, Kulkulkan.
“Our world is magnificent, as are we, but we have nobody to acknowledge our greatness, no one to count the days and not one being to give up their life in honour of us,” the all powerful Kulkulkan remarked.
So the two gods rose land up from the ocean and populated it densely with creatures which are known to us as animals. However, the results were far from satisfying. The animals gave off a deafening cacophony of wails, shriwks and growls.
“Call this praise you filthy beasts because all I can hear is a hullabaloo,” roared a fuming Huracan. “ You shall provide the main supply of food for our next beings who shall far transcend your abilities to praise us.
The two gods burning thirst for praise drove them forwards, one failed attemp would never be enough to hold them back and after many days Kulkulkan had a second ingenious idea.
“We have created a marvellous land, if we create our beings out of it then perhaps they will be magnificent too.” he considered.
Huracan allowed himself time to let the words of the mighty serpent sink into him before giving his reply:
“ I agree lets bgin their creation now, the sooner the better.”
Unfortunately for the two gods, the mud beings followed the same sorrowful path as the animals, the mud creatures did not posses the the power of speech or movement and any weather would prove fatal.
The disappointment of the mud people had dis-heartened the pair and seriously damaged their pride, they were down but most definetely not out. Because they still had the grandparents, could they provide the gods with one masterful idea which would lead the pair to succes?
