Bringing tombs to the next level the Mayan way.

If you travel to the Yucatan peninsular at first look you will find a spraling emerald forist covering much of the land. However, if you look closer you will see hulking temples dotted around this jade knigdom. These grey mamoths were the constructed by the once great mayan civaliation. The  monsters of the Mayan society were there tombs and shrines.

The Mayan temples may look beauitiful now but who could have made these fantastic constructs? Slaves and poor citizens would have built the temples. The citizens would all play an important part in there construction. farmers, miners, traders and skilled craftsmen would all have played huge roles in building only one temple! The mayans were a interdependent civilization. The farmers are one of the best exzampls . They would feed all of the other workers and there familes and in return recive items fromthe workers they fed. Miners were also very important to the construction of the temples. They would mine all the materals needed to build the temples. The materals included were lime stone, jade ,mud, clay and sand. The skilled craftsmen would then work on the materals obtaind by the miners. another way precious stones could be found was via trading. Traders would then trade for precious stones and give them to the skilled craftsmen.

Materals were key for building the pyramids; many of the materals were mined or traded for. Jade and stucco were used to decorate the out side of the temples. Jade was common  in the yucatan and was why the temples looked so amazing. Stucco was coted on the outside of the temples and was made from lime stone, water, sand and made a nice smooth finish to the  temple. Lime stone was also commonly found in the yucatan peninsular and was one of the  most imporant materals used for building the temples. lime stone was the materal used for the structur of the temple. But how were all the materals transported to the work site? Given there is no evedence that the Mayans had beasts of berden  (horses, camels, larmas and ox) This would have ment that the Mayans would have had to transport the materals using man made objects. Canoes would have proberly been used.

Although these magnificent temples may look amazing know. It would have been back breaking work to complet them. Having the right materals would have been very important but the reason the mayan temples are so amazing is because of the huge work force behind it all. so spare a thought for the workers who made them.
