Icarus and Daedalus

The thought of life and death made Icarus shake uncontrollably. He was one step away from freedom or the end of his life. A cold wind blew his hair, his heart was pounding. Icarus shut his eyes tight and took one step forwards.

He plummeted to the ground, screams escaping his mouth. Daedelus stood on the ledge, horrifyed at the sight of his son falling. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind caught his wings and carried Icarus away from death. The wind made him feel like an angel, soaring up to the heavens.

Daedlus, who had built up the courage to jump, was close behind young Icarus. His arms were spread out, the most joyous look on his face. His smile slowly faded.

“Be careful Icarus” shouted Daedlus, a slightly concerned look on his face.

“Oh don’t worry father” said Icarus.By now Icarus had mastered flying. He had left Daedlus far behind.

“Son! Stop!”exclaimed Daedlus, trying to get closer to young Icarus.

The golden sun  glowed on Icarus, his pride was growing rapidly. Pride had taken over do much, he couldn’t think of anything else but soaring to freedom. Up Icarus flew higher and higher until his pride got the better of him.

Hot, melted wax oozed down Icarus’s back, alarming him into a wreck of  feathers and wax.

“Father! Help!”screamed Icarus desperatley, the heat unbearable, the sun scorching.

But Daedlus did not hear him. Icarus had flown so high that he could almost hear the gods mocking his actions.

“ Icarus, you did not listen to your father” they hissed.

“You have flown too high and now you must pay!”

Guilt and regert erupted inside him.

Before Icarus could blink, he found more colourful feathers trailing behind him and he was soon face to face with a watery grave.

  1. I like how you said how the gods were speaking to him and that he felt guilty. The reader will feel sorry for Icarus when he dies because of the guilt he went through. Well done, Mia!
