Dear Parents/Carers

After a break during half term, Spelling Shed is back with two lists again. Some children will be having challenge words with no set rule. Other children will be learning the /l/ sound spelt ll. For Maths shed I have set 2 digit addition to help the children consolidate their knowledge of addition whilst we look at other concepts in class.

In maths this week, we have started looking at money. The children have learnt about the different coins and notes, as well as counting in pence, pounds and pounds and pence together. We also started to learn about selecting different values of money to make one value. Next week we will be turning the classroom into a shop to better understand using money. In English, we published our information pages and started our new book Journey. This term our topic will be focused around this book and the children will be exploring different journeys. We have now finished learning about the Isle of Wight, and will now be comparing it to Australia.

In R.E. this week, we created our Jewish Sukkahs. Thank you for all of the empty cereal boxes that were brought in, it was a huge help. In Science we will be starting to look at animals next week.

This half term we will be learning and rehearsing our Christmas production. The children in Year 2 will be doing the acting parts. The children have been told what parts they have and will be given their lines next week. This week we have started to learn the first few songs of the productions.

Looking to next week, we will be writing our own stories based on Journey, starting our new R.E. topic, the Lord’s Prayer, and comparing features of Australia and the Isle of Wight.

The winner of our star of the week this week is Lily, congratulations!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
