Year Two Blog Friday 17th December 2021

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Thank you so much for your support this term. It has been a wonderful beginning to what we feel will be an excellent year ahead (as we move into 2022).

We have now recorded the children’s performance of ‘The Little Angel Who Nearly Missed It All’. It will be shared with you digitally.

We are astounded by your generosity towards the teachers. Thank you very much for your thoughtful gifts.

We hope that you enjoy a well-deserved celebration with family.

Happy holidays!

Year Two Blog Friday 10th December

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Only ONE more week to go!

This week we have been reading a variety of Christmas stories and enjoyed ourselves doing all sorts of festive activities.

On Tuesday morning, we performed songs from our Christmas Show.  It was wonderful to see you there (despite the cold!) and share in the festive spirit. Next week, we will record the full performance of our show and share it with you digitally.

In Maths, we used our learning about money to create a shop. We had a bakery, a fruit and vegetable shop, toy shop and even a TESCO. We each made a shopping list and a money purse. We practised exchanging money for goods – it helped us learn a lot and was also fun!

In Science, we learnt about healthy eating and made a healthy eating plate. We used our knowledge to plan and make a healthy snack for Santa’s reindeers. Best of all, we got to taste test the finished product. 🙂

On Wednesday 15th December, it will be the KS1 Christmas party. The children must bring in their own party food in a snack/lunch box as we are unable to share food this year due to COVID guidelines. The children are invited to change into a party outfit for the afternoon. Please can the children bring in their outfit on Wednesday 15th December in a named bag.

Have a wonderful weekend

Year One Blog: You’re a Mean One, Mr Grinch

This week we read the poem ‘The Sound Collector’ by Roger McGough .

We looked carefully at the poem and identified the ‘secret strings’ that held the poem together:

  • Includes sound words
  • The sound describes the object
  • Each new description is written on a new line
  • Each stanza is four lines long

We then wrote our own version of the poem where we described the sounds that The Grinch might steal at Christmas time.

This week we performed songs from our Christmas Show.  The children have worked very hard to learn all of the songs and it was wonderful to see them perform their lines with such clarity and confidence. We hope it got you into the festive spirit. Next week, we will record the full performance of our show and share it with you digitally.

Year One Blog: We Are Writers

This week we’ve been busy in year one preparing to write our own version of the story ‘Beegu’. We used story maps to help sequence the events and on Thursday we wrote our own versions of this story. The children worked hard to include lots of descriptive language such as ‘eerie, tentatively, anxious, stern and cruel’. We were so impressed with the children’s fantastic stories that, as a treat, we made making Beegu’s favourite snack; a tasty fruit salad with toppings!

In maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes.  We will continue to explore shapes and their properties next week.

In art we travelled to the continent South America where we made a Brazilian Carnival mask.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Luetchford and Mrs Sharon 🙂
