Meeting the Wild Things

This week we have started our new core text ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak.

We generated adjectives to describe the appearance and characteristics of the Wild Things and used plasticine to create our own character for the story. Here are our terrifying Wild Things:

In maths we have been learning how to compare number statements using the statements < > =.

In geography we have started our new topic ‘Marvellous Maps’. We looked at an aerial map of our classroom, and Max’s bedroom. We had a go at making an aerial map of our own bedroom.

Next Thursday we will be celebrating World Book Day. The children are invited to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book. They can also bring in a copy of the book to share with the class. If the children choose to come into school dressed as a character, we are asking them to provide a £1.00 donation to go towards the charity Book Aid. We look forward to seeing all of the different story characters.

This week we have reviewed the following sounds:

o-e (phone home)

ay (may I play?)

Attached is the link to the Spelling Shed for the children to be able to revise these sounds: https://play.spellingshed.com/#/login

We hope you have a restful weekend,

Miss Luetchford and Mrs Sharon 🙂

Story Puppets

This week we made our story puppets. Some of us enjoyed it so much we made sure our puppets had two different sides. We think they look absolutely fantastic!

This week we have learnt the ‘ew’ sound (chew the stew).

There are words containing this sound for the children to practise available on the Spelling Shed website: https://play.edshed.co/login

We hope you have a lovely half term,

Miss Luetchford and Mrs Sharon 🙂

A Magic Cauldron

This week, we thought of our own recipe for a potion and wrote these as a set of instructions.  We had great fun making our different potions.

In learning about changes over time, this week we focussed on our school. We learnt that our school used to be called ‘Cottenham Park Primary School’ and the first Headteacher was called ‘Miss Crump’. We were shocked to discover that she only earnt £12 a year in her job.

This week we have learnt the ‘oa’ sound (goat in a boat).

There are words containing this sound for the children to practise available on the Spelling Shed website: https://play.edshed.co/login

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Luetchford and Mrs Sharon 🙂
