Deep Down in the Woods

On Wednesday we explored the physical features of our local environment and found lots of exciting mini-beasts at Fishpond’s Woods. Some of us then made a crown like Max from Where the Wild Things Are.

In maths we have been learning how to calculate one more and one less of a given number.

In English we have finished our work on Where the Wild Things Are by writing our own version of the story.

This week we have learnt the ‘ire’ sound (fire, fire).

Rainforests

This week we wrote our information pages about rainforests. We included lots of interesting facts about the habitat of a rainforest, deforestation and the famous three toed sloth.

In maths we have been learning how to find one more and one less of a given number and ordering numbers using < > =.

Due to the wet and windy weather this week we were unable to visit Fishpondโ€™s Wood.  Now that the sun finally seems to be out, we are hoping to be in the woods next week.

This week we have been reviewing the ow sound (blow the snow).

Fascinating Facts

This week we have been learning lots of fascinating facts about rainforests. Did you know that algae grows on a slothโ€™s back? This helps them camouflage in trees to help hide from predators such as snakes and jaguars. Next week we will be writing information pages all about rainforests.

In maths we have been learning about representing numbers using mathematical equipment. Next week we will be learning to count in 2s 5s and 10s.

This week we made the fruit salad for Max and the Wild Things. It was great fun eating our tasty, healthy meal.

This week we have been practising the ‘igh’ sound (fly high)

How to spot a Wild Thing

This week we wrote our guides to teach people how to spot a Wild Thing. We described their appearance, habitat and diet and tried hard to use interesting sentence starters such as ‘Beware of their sharp claws.’

In maths we have been learning how to partition numbers into tens and ones.

On Thursday we celebrated โ€˜World Book Dayโ€™ and dressed up as our favourite characters from different stories. To celebrate the day we participated in a whole school parade to showcase our amazing outfits. Thank you for your donations towards the Book Aid Trust. In the assembly the children learnt about how their donations help bring books to children around the world.

This week we have learnt the ‘ear’ sound (hear with your ear).
