Year 2 Home Learning for Friday 27th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Below is the lesson overview for today and the resources needed to complete these activities. Along side this I will also be adding a few lists to spelling shed that the children will be able to access over the next week if they want to.

I will be uploading two videos to Class Dojo. One will be myself reading the story Chapati Moon, and the other will be a maths input for today’s learning.

Thank you for all of your support this week and the kind messages towards, not only me, but also to the rest of the Year 2 team and the wider school community. It has been greatly appreciated, and I hope the children’s enthusiasm for home learning can continue going forward. I’d just like to add that I don’t want anyone to feel pressured by the activities I set. It is there as guidance and I fully understand that all of the work might not be able to finished in these difficult times. The last thing I want to do is cause anyone, child or parent, anxiety and stress when a lot of us have enough of that already!

The new classdojo password is: GHJ XQA

Kind Regards
Mr Stocking

Year 2 home learning for Thursday 26th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Below is the lesson overview and resources for Thursday’s learning. If you have any questions about the learning I will be available between 10am and 12pm. The Dojo password is the same as yesterday.

A few parents have asked if we will be posting any videos of us reading stories for the children to watch. I will be recording a video tomorrow for the children’s guided reading on Friday, and I know Mrs Killy is in the process of recording a video of her reading a story as well. It is very important that we remain visible for the children throughout these difficult times, and this is one way we are doing that.

Kind Regards

Mr Stocking

Year 2 Home Learning for Wednesday 25th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Below is the overview and resources for today’s learning. The excellent enthusiasm for ClassDojo has continued which is fantastic. When uploading the children’s work, please make sure it is only the challenges I have set, all of the teaching and talking time segments do not need to be uploaded.

The new ClassDojo code is: OIV WGJ

I have also had a few parents say they occasionally have found it difficult to access ClassDojo. This is most likely due to the huge amount of traffic the website (and various other websites) are now receiving due to everyone being at home. When I can’t access the website, it normally works again after a few minutes.

Thank you for your continued support during these difficult times.

Year 2 Home learning for Tuesday 24th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for an excellent first day of home learning. I hope this enthusiasm in the children can continue in the weeks to come.

Below is the learning overview and resources needed for today’s learning. The video for maths can be found on our Class Dojo class story. This was due to the file size being too large to upload to the blog.

I will be available to contact today between 10am and 12pm. If you have questions outside of this time I might not be able to respond. Also while I will be looking at everything the children upload, I might not be able to comment on every piece of work or I would not have time to approve everything that is being sent to me. I will do my best to comment on as many pieces of work as possible!

As some of you may have seen, Mrs Killy, Mrs MacDonald and Mrs Sullivan will also be available to communicate with throughout the day. They will try to talk to the children they usually work closely with to continue giving them excellent support while we are out of the classroom.

The Classdojo code is: MQC LWY

Thank you for your continued support in these very difficult times.

Year 2 Home Learning for Monday 23rd March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Here is the first day of our virtual learning. Below is the Lesson overview for today,  a weekly overview and the resources you will need for your child’s learning.

The children will be able to upload any work that they want to their Class Dojo portfolio. Not everything needs to be uploaded. The time on each subject is only a guidance. Some children might finish activities quicker, some might need more time.

If you have any questions about the children’s learning or if the children want to speak to me, I will be available to contact between 10am and 12pm on ClassDojo.

The new ClassDojo 6 digit code is: MQC LWY

Some parents also asked to see what our timetable looked like when in school to help with a daily routine and structure, so I have attached the Year 2 school timetable as well.

This style of learning is new for everyone and I am sure certain things will need tweaking so that it works for everybody. Thank you for your patience and support, it is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Mr Stocking

Virtual Classroom and Class Dojo

Dear Parents and Carers

During the isolation period we will be facing, the children’s learning will continue through the class blog and communication with myself and Mrs Killy will be available on ClassDojo.

Both yourselves and the children will be able to access ClassDojo, and work can be uploaded to the children’s portfolio which I will be able to see. I will also be uploading videos of myself reading stories or explaining how to do an activity if I feel as though that is needed.

For the children to access ClassDojo they will need a 6 digit code. They have been shown how to do this and have had a play round with the website at school. This code will change every 2 days. The new class code will be posted on the blog every other day for the children to access.

Pupil’s current ClassDojo 6 digit code: UZO GSQ

Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty at this time, the children have responded in a calm and responsible manner. Thank you for your continued support of Year 2 and the school as a whole.

Kind Regards

Mr Stocking and the Year 2 team

Year 2 Blog Friday 13th December 2019

This week’s blog is written by Levi and Guy.

This week we have been writing a thank you letter to our parents to say thank you for coming to see our Christmas show. I played a King (Guy) and I was a sheep ‘Baaaa!’ (Levi). You will be receiving these letters next week.

In maths we have been multiplying , adding and subtracting numbers. On Thursday we completed our maths tests to show all of our learning.

In science we have been learning about animals. We have been looking at insects, reptiles and amphibians. My favourite animal is a cheetah which is a mammal (Guy). My favourite animal is also a cheetah because they are really fast (Levi).

In art we have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at his paintings called ‘Wheatfield With Crows’, ‘The Starry Night’ and ‘The Yellow House’.

We used pastels and chalk to draw our own version of these paintings.

Next week it is our Christmas party. We are looking forward to wearing our own clothes and dancing in the hall. Our Christmas party is on Wednesday 18th December.

Our Christmas Show

This week’s blog is written by Valeri and Coco.

This week we performed our Christmas Show to the school and all of the parents and carers. We felt scared and excited to say our lines. Our favourite song was ‘Kings are Travelling’.

In maths we have been learning about money. We have sorted coins and started to make different amounts. We have learnt how to make a total such as  50p + 50p makes 100p which is £1.

In science we have been learning about what animals need to survive. They need oxygen, food, water, sleep and shelter.

In R.E we have been learning about Saints. Saints are people who help spread the word of God.

We are looking forward to the Christmas Fair this weekend.

Year Two Blog 15th November 2019

Dear Parents/Carers

It was lovely to see you all for parents evening this week, and I hope it was a helpful experience for everyone. For Spelling shed this week the children are either looking at the /l/ sound spelt –le or the /z/ sound spelt zz or s. I have set maths shed this week. There is a variety of number bond games to practise that all of the children can access.

In maths this week, we finished learning about money. The children learnt how to find the difference in two amounts, how to find the correct change and how to work through two-step problems. In English we finished working towards and wrote our stories that mirrored Journey. The children worked very hard at their writing and we have some wonderful stories. In topic, the children learnt about different landmarks in Australia and how the Isle of Wight and Australia are similar and different. In Art, the children designed postcards with different Isle of Wight landmarks on. In R.E., the children thought about Remembrance day and what was special to them.

This half term we will be learning and rehearsing our Christmas production. The children in Year 2 will be doing the acting parts. Our practises are in full swing, and the children have been brilliant at learning the songs and practising their lines. Please can you continue to practise your child’s line with them at home.

Looking to next week, we will be editing and publishing our stories, looking at the concept of different in greater detail in maths and in Science we are looking at what animals need to survive. In R.E. we are learning about Saints.

The winner of our star of the week this week is Belle, congratulations!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Mr. Stocking and the Year 2 team.
