Dear Diary

This week we have been learning how to write a diary entry. We looked at different diaries and as a class labelled each of the key features. We learnt that diaries have a date at the top of the page, begin with ‘Dear Diary’, are written in the first person past tense, include some descriptive vocabulary and end with ‘Love from’. Next week we will be writing a diary as Beegu where will be describing her adventures on this strange and mysterious planet.

In maths we have been learning about subtraction. We have learnt how to count backwards and draw pictures to calculate how many are ‘left’.

In science we have been learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Next week we will continue this learning by drawing a simple food chain to show predators and prey.

This week we have been revising the following sounds:

o-e (phone, home)

ow (blow, snow)

oa (goat, boat)

ou (shout, out)

er (better, letter)

Attached is the link to the Spelling Shed for the children to be able to revise these sounds:https://play.spellingshed.com/#/login

Next week it is the turn of the Dr Xargle table for Show and Tell (Kieran, Ana, Emily, Jamie, Sophia and Shiven).

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Year One Team
